Despite the influences and motivations,significant obstacles exist that inhibit, and often discourage,community activeness among youth. The case study:
James is 23 years old and is suffering from sickle cell anaemia. He is supported by a team of different healthcare professionals, who are working together in a specialist sickle cell centre. To control his pain symptoms but also to prevent some of the complications caused by the disease, James has been advised by his healthcare professionals to do some cardio and other mild physical activities such as weightlifting to maintain strength, particularly in the legs and hips. James was advised to start with short sessions (10 to 15 minutes) and gradually add five minutes to his workouts every two to four weeks to build up his endurance. However, because of his condition, moderate physical activity feels significantly more strenuous. After the first session James could feel the strain. He did not only have pain in his legs, but felt the demands on the body in terms of oxygen needs.
Advise James on the best form of exercise he should take to improve his symptoms.
